Glen Arbor, MI (PRWEB) April 20, 2009 -- Free Nordic Walking Clinics and a Nordic Walking Seminar are coming to the Natural Health and Wellness Expo on Saturday, May 9th, at the Traverse City, Michigan, Civic Center. Real Nordic Walking Poles will also be available to demo and for purchase. Participants to the 2009 Natural Health and Wellness Expo will be treated to a wonderful day of delicious organic and local foods, alternative health services, natural health products and more, in addition to the Nordic Walking action.
Instruction will be provided by Pete Edwards - owner/founder/coach of SkiWalking.com and The American Nordic Walking System. At 10:30am Edwards will be one of the events featured presenters and his topic: "Walk your Way to Better Health with Nordic Ski Walking." Following Edwards' presentation he will be hosting private and group lessons up until 5 p.m.
The Traverse City Civic Center is an ideal location for Nordic Walking. With the rubber tips/paws on the ends of the poles they can be safely and effectively used indoors at the Civic Center or outside on the paved hiking trail. The rubber tips are ideal for hard surfaces like pavement, sidewalks, indoor/outdoor tracks and even in the mall. When the rubber tips are pulled off, the metal tip is exposed and then the poles are ready to go on dirt roads, trails, the beach, snow and ice.
All of Edwards' poles are equipped with real Nordic Walking straps - patented by the Salomon Ski Company. The fingerless glove type straps eliminate the need to grip the poles and yet transfer power and push-off into the cradle of the straps. These same straps have helped to revolutionize cross country skiing.
Nordic Walking correctly can burn up to 40% more calories than regular walking. The poles help to provide all the benefits of cross country skiing, but no skis and no snow are required.
Walking with the correct length poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Using the correct length poles automatically encourages walking with a straighter back and better posture - biomechanicaly a very good thing.

Commercial Light Poles
It is the responsibility of any building owner or manager to provide extensive lighting in the surrounding area. A well lit car park or yard is much safer than a darkened one, and is also much less likely to allow for criminal activity to take place. By incorporating a sensible lighting system around your premises, you can reduce the likelihood of accidents happening and crimes taking place, as well as creating a much more pleasant environment for staff to work in. Through the use of commercial light poles, you will be able to create a well lit and comfortable environment where safety is paramount, and security is immeasurably improved for all users.
Nordic Walking Pioneer Tom Rutlin Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Exerstrider Fitness Walking Poles
Nordic walking, or fitness walking with specially designed poles, is just beginning to gain attention in the U.S, despite the fact that it's already attracted an estimated 10 million walkers world-wide, and it's been among the hottest fitness trends in Europe for nearly a decade. America's own "father" of the Nordic walking movement has been promoting and walking the Nordic walking walk for more than 20 years. This fitness trend may soon get hot here in the U.S., but it's nothing new to the Nordic-American man who gave birth to the concept.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Trekking Poles

Horse Track, Outdoor Arena & Equestrian Lighting
Outdoor lighting for horse arenas and equestrian facilities are becoming more sophisticated every day. In the old days, horse arenas and outdoor rodeo arenas were lighted with outdoor flood lights, halogen lights or simply mercury vapor barn lights. These forms of outdoor arena lighting did not have the lumen output or performance to properly illuminate arenas, holding pens, stables or horse training areas. In fact, all of these light sources are outdated, ineffective and inefficient. The foot-candle specifications for lighting equestrian and rodeo arenas are 50fc for Class 2 and 30fc for Class 3.
